Me & the 7th annual ‘Women in Art Prize’

Women in art prize 2024

I often apply for different art prizes, open exhibitions and competitions, so I was happy to get long listed for the women in art prize earlier this year and even happier to get short listed later. I am now very excited to be one of the 22 finalists getting ready to go to the awards ceremony on the 18th of September at the Roundhouse, Camden.

The works are of a very high standard, I can’t wait to meet the other finalist and find out about them, their art practice and see the works in the flesh. The internet and social media have allowed us to view so much art, find many new artists, this media does open up the creative world to all, these illuminated screens lend themselves to showing off art but there is nothing quite like standing in front of the work and really looking.

The Women in Art group and Prize are very important to the art world, they are independent, not for profit group who are looking to redress the gender imbalance in our art world. Their work over the years is helping female artists be seen and have a platform to work with and from. Thank you to them for all their hard work, I am really looking forward to meeting everyone on the 18th.

If you are around the Camden area and wish to visit the exhibition the Roundhouse’s nearest tube station is Chalk Farm and that is near! There is step free access and good facilities. The Women in Art exhibition is on until the 29th September and open to all. My piece is from my Crowstone Series of Paintings, these are my interpretation of landscapes looking out from the Crowstone on the bed of the river Thames where the river meets the estuary. The Three Guardsmen are three chimneys that stand on the south bank of the river and who locals say, look after the river and all who live and use it.
